Customers who are looking to maximize performance and driver satisfaction while minimizing fuel costs should be steered toward Cummins EX ratings. These ratings require use of the X15™ Efficiency Series engine paired with the Endurant HD transmission and look-ahead data capabilities. It’s a completely integrated powertrain that delivers enhanced fuel economy using advanced GPS technology to deliver smooth, powerful acceleration across the entire rpm range.

There are six EX ratings for the X15 Efficiency Series engine, ranging from 400 to 500 hp with 1650 to 1850 lb-ft of peak torque. EX features include:

On-Ramp Boost: This Cummins-exclusive feature momentarily disables fuel-saving

features and augments the shift calibration to deliver greater acceleration when you

need it most.

Predictive Gear Shifting: Leverages GPS data to downshift before the hill to

maintain uphill speed.

Predictive Engine Braking: Looks at the grade ahead and can engage engine

brakes early to aid in maintaining the desired maximum speed.

Dynamic Power: Adjusts torque in order to make lighter vehicles operate similarly

to heavier vehicles on grades. This provides fuel savings on lightly loaded vehicles by

delivering consistent performance across varying loads.

These features are in addition to the X15 standard feature set, which lowers the total cost of operation through enhanced fuel economy, reduced maintenance and increased uptime. Standard X15 features include:

  • SmartCoast
  • Predictive Cruise Control
  • Predictive Road Speed Governor
  • Extended Oil Drain Intervals
  • Aligned Filter Replacement Intervals

X15 Efficiency Series customers with EX ratings can expect to gain an additional 1.5% in fuel economy over the 2019 Cummins X15 engines with comparable ratings.

For regional haul customers, these same EX features and performance enhancements are also available on the 2021 X12 engine, with ratings ranging from 380 to 455 hp and up to 1700 lb-ft of peak torque. The same technical requirements (Endurant HD transmission and GPS look-ahead capabilities) exist for X12 customers as well.
