Good News for Customers Replacing DPFs

The Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) is an essential part of the aftertreatment system and it is integral to how well any diesel engine performs. When one gets clogged or needs to be replaced, it can cost a significant amount of money. Cummins has been working hard to increase DPF service intervals and offer affordable ReCon® DPFs for late-model trucks.

The DPF for U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 2007 ISX15 and ISX12 engines has recently been redesigned to extend service cleaning intervals to 500,000 miles. That’s approximately four years’ worth of normal use, and twice as long as the original DPF offered with those engines. Not only does the DPF have a higher ash capacity, but it also reduces the amount of backpressure on the engine, for up to 2 percent better fuel economy, and it is 1.5 times more durable. All of this results in a savings of up to $3,000 over the lifetime of the DPF, adding money to your customers’ bottom line.

Customers currently running trucks powered by EPA 2013 ISX15 or ISX12 engines needing to replace a DPF have a new money-saving option as well. Cummins now has ReCon DPFs available for these models of engines, available for an immediate exchange. Customers will experience minimal downtime (30 minutes to replace versus three days to clean a DPF), and get full core value applied to the purchase. What’s more, because Cummins ReCon DPFs are fully validated to original equipment (OE) standards in a like-new condition, there’s no need for a post-installation regeneration, which typically adds an extra hour of downtime. Plus, the new technology used in Cummins ReCon DPFs provides greater ash capacity, for longer service intervals.

Core acceptance determination follows the same criteria and valuation as those of EPA 2010 ISX15 and ISX12 ReCon DPFs.

While no customers are going to be excited about the need to replace a DPF, they will appreciate that you are looking out for their best interests, and helping them decrease costs and downtime in the process. For more information on Cummins new and ReCon DPF options, visit
