Cummins L9™ for 2017

Based on 25 years’ worth of development and improvement, with over 5 million units sold worldwide, the L9 leads the industry in performance, with the highest compression ratio and broadest power range of any engine in its category (260 hp to 380 hp) with up to 1250 lb-ft of peak torque. Built on a heavy-duty design, the L9 features piston sleeve wet-liners that allow for easier overhauls, providing longer engine life. The proven VGT® Turbocharger features a single sliding nozzle for dynamic airflow control, a heavy-duty bearing system for enhanced reliability and a modified exhaust manifold interface that improves durability and serviceability.

Customers looking to maximize fuel economy with the lowest possible cost of operation should select one of our efficiency ratings from 260 hp to 350 hp. L9 engines in this ratings family have a unique turbocharger, piston design, damper and aftertreatment system, all of which have contributed to up to a 15 percent fuel economy improvement since 2007.

Customers with vocational vehicles such as mixers, refuse haulers and dump trucks generally need more power and torque. L9 high-performance ratings for severe-duty and specialty applications range from 370 hp to 380 hp with up to 1250 lb-ft of peak torque.
