B6.7 Stop-Start Technology Reduces Fuel Use by Up to 15 Percent

Whether it‘s a box truck delivering office supplies, a pickup-and-delivery truck with parcels or a refuse truck picking up trash, this advanced technology on Cummins B6.7 engine for 2017 has the potential to cut fuel use and costs while reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and noise.

Cummins Stop-Start technology delivers substantial fuel economy savings (3 percent to 15 percent) in vehicles that spend a lot of time idling. When the vehicle stops, the Electronic Control Module (ECM) checks critical components to ensure 100 percent restart capability, then stops the fuel flow to the engine and goes into standby mode. The engine restarts the instant the driver lifts his or her foot off the brake pedal.

Stop-Start will be offered as an option with the 2017 B6.7. Interested customers can work with OEM dealers for this capability to be offered.

Even while the engine is stopped, key systems continue to run, including the HVAC fan, interior lights, radio and GPS-connected devices, by seamlessly switching to battery power. The Stop-Start option will include a compatible transmission, long-life starter motor, smart alternator, deep cycle battery, battery charge sensor and next-generation ECM.

While it may sound complex, the way Cummins Stop-Start technology works is incredibly simple. Check out the video below showing exactly what drivers and owners can expect from a vehicle equipped with Stop-Start technology. This video is a great tool for showing customers the benefits of Stop-Start while making them comfortable with the technology.
