ISL G Near Zero Ideal for Nonattainment Zones

While California has developed an optional ultra-low nitrogen oxides (NOx) level standard, natural gas engine technology developed by Cummins Westport represents a viable, cost-effective and efficient way for all major urban areas in North America to lower ozone levels. This includes over 400 nonattainment zones in the United States, where over 125 million people reside.

Based on the Cummins Westport ISL G natural gas engine, the ISL G Near Zero combines the inherent cleanliness of stoichiometric natural gas combustion with the latest in emissions aftertreatment technology to virtually eliminate the release of NOx into the atmosphere. With an advanced Three-Way Catalyst (TWC), the ISL G Near Zero features a level of 0.02g/bhp-hr in NOx emissions – a full 90 percent less than U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 2010 standards. The ISL G Near Zero will further reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. A Closed-Crankcase Ventilation (CCV) system reduces engine-related methane (CH4) by 70 percent, and significant GHG reductions are possible when using renewable natural gas (RNG).

The ISL G Near Zero fits the performance profile for a wide variety of vehicles, including urban transit, school and shuttle buses, refuse trucks and other vocational equipment and medium-duty truck and tractor applications. Like the ISL G, it is capable of running on compressed natural gas (CNG), liquefied natural gas (LNG) or RNG.

If you are familiar with the ISL G, you’ll note that there’s no difference in performance (ratings are identical) or warranty and extended coverage options. Even the technician service certifications remain the same. Other than the CCV filter change required at 2,000 hours, maintenance intervals will follow what you’re used to with the ISL G.

With the latest engineering improvements of the ISL G, the ISL G Near Zero offers the lowest-cost pathway to zero emissions – and it provides the reassurance of using a low-cost, domestic and abundant fuel source. Whether your customer is looking to buy new equipment or repower an existing bus or truck, the Cummins Westport ISL G Near Zero is the natural choice for your customers – and the communities they serve.
