The Next Dimension of Performance: Cummins ISV5.0

The compact V8 design and advanced technology packed into the new Cummins ISV5.0 make it a perfect fit for Class 2 to 5 trucks, buses and school buses and vans. Extraordinarily clean, quiet and fuel efficient, the ISV5.0 offers 20 to 40 percent better fuel economy than gasoline V8 engines of comparable performance. In addition to being certified to the near-zero particulate matter (PM) and oxides of nitrogen (NOx) levels, the ISV5.0 meets greenhouse gas (GHG) requirements through 2016. The ISV5.0 also meets 2015 Air Resources Board (ARB) standards, including On-Board Diagnostics.

Advanced features on the ISV5.0 include:

  • Bosch® High Pressure Common Rail (HPCR) Fuel System with Piezo injectors
  • Dual Overhead Camshafts (DOHC)
  • Cummins VGT™ Turbocharger
  • Advanced Ceramic Glow Plugs
  • Compacted Graphite Iron (CGI) Block
  • Two-Stage Fuel Filter with NanoNet™ Media
  • Multiple front-end accessory drive options to handle every need

From a ratings perspective, the ISV5.0 has impressive horsepower and torque. Multiple ratings will be offered for the ISV5.0, ranging from 200 hp to 275 hp (149-205 kW). This new Cummins diesel was designed from the ground up to be very efficient while delivering this kind of power.

The ISV5.0 will be manufactured at the Columbus (Ind.) Engine Plant (CEP), and production will start during the fourth quarter of 2014.
